Oggi vorrei proporre un' iniziativa che ha il fumo come protagonista.
Prima di parlarne vorrei raccontare un po la storia del tabagismo e riportare un qualche statistica sui fumatori in Italia:
Da un'indagine della Doxa pubblicata nel 2005 risulta che in Italia il 29,2% della popolazione adulta (di 15 anni ed oltre) dichiara di essere fumattrice (il 35% dei maschi e il 23,8% delle donne).
I fumatori si dividono in due gruppi di pari dimensione secondo il consumo medio quotidiano di sigarette: il 14,1% dichiara di fumare in media meno di 15 sigarette al giorno e il 14,6% di fumare 15 o più sigarette al giorno.
Gli ex fumatori sono il 16,6% del campione (il 25,4% dei maschi e l'8,4% delle femmine) mentre coloro che dichiarano di non essere mai stati fumatori sono il 54,3% del campione (il 39,6% dei maschi e il 67,8% delle femmine).
I fumatori adulti sono quindi meno di un terzo della popolazione italiana mentre oltre la metà dichiara di non esserlo mai stato.
Ma vediamo come si è arrivati a questi numeri:
Il consumo di tabacco, mediante l'uso di pipe o sigari era diffuso tra molte popolazioni del nord America. Nelle opere scultoree e pittoriche Maya sono frequentemente raffigurate scene relative all'uso di tabacco. I Maya fumavano il tabacco o lo masticavano unendolo al lime. Veniva utilizzato anche per scopi medici e terapeutici e, dal momento che si credeva avesse poteri magici, era impiegato durante le divinazioni e nella produzione di talismani. Si usava bruciare del tabacco anche in occasione dei sacrifici agli dèi.
Quando Cristoforo Colombo sbarcò in America, gli furono date delle foglie secche di tabacco da una popolazione locale, ma lui le gettò via non attribuendogli importanza. Il primo vero fumatore europeo fu Rodrigo de Jerez, che venne imprigionato per sette anni dall'Inquisizione Spagnola dopo che i suoi familiari lo denunciarono spaventati per aver visto del fumo uscirgli dalle narici e dalla bocca.
Nel 1498 Colombo diede il nome Tobago ad un isola caraibica proprio perché questa pianta vi cresceva rigogliosa. Nel XVI secolo il tabacco divenne popolare tra i marinai e venne introdotto anche nel Regno Unito e in Spagna, dapprima come pianta ornamentale e, solo in seguito da fumo.
Nel 1610 in Cina ne fu vietata la coltivazione, pena la decapitazione.
Durante la Guerra dei Trent'Anni i Lanzichenecchi diffusero il tabacco ovunque in Europa e nel 1630 la Svezia e l'Austria erano le nazioni con più fumatori, mentre in Svizzera vigeva il divieto di consumarlo.
All'inizio dell'800 il sigaro divenne immensamente popolare in Inghilterra, ma fu più tardi soppiantato dalla più economica sigaretta, così come avvenne nel resto d'Europa. La regina Vittoria detestava il tabacco, ma appena dopo la sua morte, il figlio e successore Edoardo VII che evidentemente la pensava in maniera ben diversa, fece accomodare i suoi amici in una grande stanza di Buckingham Palace con un sigaro ed annunciò loro:
«Signori, potete fumare!»
Le razioni militari assegnate ai soldati arruolati per combattere nella Prima Guerra Mondiale comprendevano una quotidiana quantità di sigarette. Durante gli anni '30, il Regime Nazista e i capi militari cominciarono ad occuparsi della salute dei cittadini e rivolsero la loro attenzione al tabacco, concludendo che all'epoca rappresentasse la causa più importante del cancro al polmone. Inoltre percepivano l'abitudine al fumo come contraria al culto del cittadino ariano forte e sano che stavano cercando di imporre. Dal 1933 al 1945 in Germania venne lanciata una fortissima campagna anti-fumo, pienamente supportata da Hitler, convinto salutista. Egli infatti identificava il fumo come una minacciosa abitudine comunista e come simbolo di decadenza e rilassatezza di costumi. La propaganda dell'epoca aveva anche l'intento di scoraggiare il fumo durante la gravidanza.
Negli Stati Uniti, il biologo Raymond Pearl aveva dimostrato gli effetti negativi del tabacco già nel 1938. Dagli anni cinquanta in poi le comunità mediche e i governi hanno condotto campagne per sensibilizzare l'opinione pubblica, evidenziando gli effetti negativi di questa abitudine. Negli anni '60 furono introdotte sul mercato sigarette dotate di filtro ed immessi in commercio dei tipi di sigaretta con un minor contenuto di nicotina, ma quest'ultima iniziativa non incontrava il favore dei consumatori e stentò parecchio a riscuotere successo. Nel 1964 si decise di vietare la pubblicità alle sigarette e si cercò di chiedere agli statunitensi di smettere di fumare.
E adesso finalmente veniamo al punto, con questo post vorrei lanciare una sorta di campagna informativa per blog e siti, mi piacerebbe se tutti mettessero sul proprio spazio un banner o una scritta per far sapere se il proprietario del blog è un fumatore o meno.

Ottima iniziativa, Alessio. Ho messo il banner ma non so se e' venuto bene. Informaticamente sono un po' imbranata.
Personalmente, avrei bisogno di un'altra opzione: sono tra le poche persone che non hanno mai provato una sigaretta. Nessuno me l'ha mai offerta e a me non e' mai interessato provare. Ciao,
Solo a me non è chiaro il senso dell'iniziativa? Perchè al lettore di un blog dovrebbe importare se l'autore è o non è un fumatore?

A me ed a tantissime altre persone fa sempre piacere sapere se una persona è fumatrice o meno. Inizialmente ti dirò mary volevo fare un post semplicemente contro il fumo ma poi ho visto che alla fine i fumatori non sono così tanti e quindi ho allargato un po il campo d'azione per vedere un po se anche nella blogosfera il rapporto tra fumatori e non fumatori era lo stesso. Beh cmq si forse l'iniziativa non ha alcuna concretà utilità ma la trovo carina per tutti coloro che vogliono manifestare il proprio amore o odio per il fumo.
Non mi riferivo al fatto che l'iniziativa deve avere per forza un'utilità concreta. Solo che, quando leggo un blog, ci sono molte cose che riguardano l'autore, che mi interessano di più del suo essere o non essere un fumatore. Mi sembra irrilevante, tutto qui. Comunque è solo il mio parere...

Ciao Alessio, aderisco all'iniziativa perchè ho appurato di persona come ci si sente bene dopo aver smesso di fumare, anche se, quando fumavo, smettere mi sembrava una cosa impossibile.

Personalmente non fumo, mai fatto.Fa male a se', agli altri e alla lunga pesa sul servizio sanitario nazionale, quindi sulle tasche di tutti e costa un sacco. Stesso discorso vale x l'alcool.

Sono d'accordo con mary. Non capisco il senso o l'utilita' dell'iniziativa.
Di un blogger non mi interressa se fumi o meno, perche' e' in qualche modo..virtuale. Pero' se conosco di persona una ragazza e la frequento invece SI'!! :P

Grazie per aver preso in considerazione la critica. Non vorrei che qualcuno pensasse che mi accanisco, però avrei ancora una cosa da dire: non è che bisogna a tutti i costi trovare un senso o un'utilità alla cosa. Non è questo a lasciarmi perplessa. Piuttosto il tono...un po' da gruppo terapeutico per il recupero di tossicodipendenti. "Sono Marina e non fumo da 2 ore", hai presente? Ci vorrebbe una certa apertura...
Prometto che ora la smetto e sto zitta! ;-)
io fumo!! vorrei dire però che non è facile smettere...per chi non fuma è facile dire certe cose,ma vi assicuro che è davvero-davvero-davvero dura...il fumo non è ne più ne meno di altre dipendenze,ma non viene trattata allo stesso modo....ad esempio non esistono riunioni per i fumatori anonimi,che detto così fa ridere ma è la verità....cinzia

Per questo non demonizzo assolutamente chi lo fa, a volte si inizia per stress, per una situazione difficile, mica solo per fare i figo...

grazie artemisia!mi consolo che a quanto pare non sono l'unica in questo mondo a non aver mai provato a fumare!!è il colmo però..ormai sembra che per essre fighi bisogna per forza avere una cicca in mano..in realtà siamo noi che non abbiamo mai provato che diventiamo trasgressivi e controcorrente al giorno d'oggi, no?!
Sull'iniziativa: io non l'ho interpretata ne' come un appello ne' come una predica ne' come un processo ai fumatori. Mi e' sembrata solo uno spunto di discussione sul tema e mi pare che sia proprio risultato cosi'.
D'accordo ovviamente col non demonizzare i fumatori, anzi, come ha gia' scritto qualcuno, vanno aiutati a smettere perche' la dipendenza deve essere proprio brutta. Infatti ho sempre pensato che se fossi fumatrice la cosa che mi farebbe piu' rabbia e' la mancanza di liberta'.

Aderisco assolutamente! Non ho mai fumato, non ho mai avuto nulla a che fare con il fumo. Quando sento l'odore prodotto dalla sigaretta provo un senso di nausea intollerabile. La mia è come una forte allergia. Detesto la gente che mi fuma addosso sapendo che non riesco a reggere quell'odore.
Comunque, a me interessa sempre sapere se uno fuma o no, e se guardo un blog una delle prime cose che cerco è se l'autore fuma o meno. Da questa sua piccola e semplice dichiarazione si può capire molto.
Mi hanno sbalordito le percentuali che hai riportato: tra tutti quelli che conosco sono in pochissimi che non hanno mai fumato. Su cento ragazzi/ragazze, meno di venti non fumano. Basta studiare la situazione nelle scuole per vedere che la percentuale di fumatori supera il 50%.

sì, è comunque giusto che ci siano discussioni aperte sul tabagismo.
io personalmente ho smesso da quasi 2 anni(ho fumato per piu' di 5 anni, e nell'ultimo periodo ne fumavo piu' di 30 al giorno), nessuna crisi, nessun problema nel farlo. Ho smesso e basta! Certo il mio intento è stato coadiuvato dalla lettura di un libro, non uno dei soliti articoli che ti dicono quanto male fa il fumo da sigaretta(questo lo sappiamo bene tutti), diciamo che è una specie di metodo. Anche alcuni miei amici lo hanno provato, ma non ottenendo lo stesso risultato purtroppo; infatti
la prima regola per smettere di fumare è VOLERLO! e non esiste nessuna panacea! e non arriverà mai l'illuminazione da chissà quale fonte di virtù, se prima non si è deciso fermamente di voler smettere.

e vorrei rispondere a mary che chiede "Perchè al lettore di un blog dovrebbe importare se l'autore è o non è un fumatore?".
A me interessa sempre se qualcuno con cui ho a che fare fuma o no. Perchè credo che veda il mondo attraverso la nuvoletta che gli esce dalla bocca. Perchè getta le cicche per terra e questo spiega molto di lui e della categoria cui appartiene. Perchè il fumo, prima causa di morte evitabile è una malattia e la vera pandemia che ha causato più morti al mondo di qualunque altra pandemia o guerra. Perchè il fumo è responsabile, a mio parere, come cofattore, di pandemie vere o costruite come la Spagnola del 1918 o l'Aids (chiaro che non bisogna credere che HIV=AIDS). Perchè le minoranze che comandano e fanno del male quasi sempre fumano... E per parafrasare l'atroce citazione di Sandro Pertini "Dai fumatori si può imparare la tolleranza. Mai un fumatore si è lamentato di un non fumatore" dico che "Nessuna lepre si è mai potuta lamentare del cacciatore che l'ha uccisa..." (a parte che non è vero che nessun fumatore si è mai lamentato di un non fumatore, basta fare una ricerca in rete...).

io fumo, ma vorrei smettere... ho intenzione di rivolgermi a qualche dottore, dato che con la sola forza di volontà pare che non riesca a smettere di fumare. Da quando fumo sn sempre in affanno, le mie capacità polmonari si sn ridotte ai minimi termini, ma nonostante questo non mi sn ancora deciso a smettere. Purtroppo devo ammettere di essere un tabacco dipendente... spero di smettere di fumare, o almeno di ridurre la mia razione giornaliera...

A che serve questa iniziativa ??? con tutto quello che e' nocivo e che mangi sicuramente tutti i giorni e respiri tra scatolette e aria fritta nelle citta' ti preoccupi di una sigaretta? Quanti anni hai Alessio 10 o 12 ? e' proprio vero che l'Italia ha il tasso di ignoranza piu' elevato d'Europa , basta scrivere qualsiasi cagata per far chiaccherare gli utenti che commentano solo appunto le cagate.
Chiudi il blog installa un editor e creati un sito a manina invece di scrivere fesserie su blog preconfezionati.

Strano ritrovarti su un blog e essere travolti da questa domanda:"Fumi o non fumi?".qualcuno pur facendolo forse non si sarà nemmeno mai posto la domanda.Il problema vero ,secondo me ,non è davvero il fatto di fumare o no ma perchè...Come mai una persona decide di fumare?quali sono i motivi?L'omologazione?trovi x stada bambini con la sigaretta in mano...perchè accade questo?il problema del fumo è legato a un problema ben più grave ossia la massificazione, il dover assomigliare agli altri per essre accettati e sentirsi fighi...perche questo?perchè nella società moderna dobbiamo per forza assomigliarci e perdere la nostra identità?molte persone iniziano a fumare proprio per questo,e sono convinta che se ciascuno di noi iniziasse ad avere davvero una propria,autonoma identità allora molti problemi di oggi tra cui il fumo potrebbero essere in parte (non mi azzardo a dire completamente) risolti.

Io sono un ex fumatore, ho fumato un pacchetto al giorno dai 15 anni ai 27, poi ho smesso dalla sera alla mattina.
Ho sofferto per 2 settimane, c'e' da dire che ho voluto smettere in un periodo bruttissimo e di forte stress. Per 6 mesi ho fatto sogni in cui fumavo e mi svegliavo preoccupato pensando che avrei ripreso. Ma fortunatamente non e' successo. Adesso sono 3 anni che non fumo piu' e le sigarette non mi mancano per nulla. Smettete gente ! Se cel'ho fatta io, ce la possono fare tutti !

Io ho smesso leggendo il libro scritto da Allen Car dal titolo " E' facile smettere di fumarese sai come fare" fumavo da 26 anni ero arrivato a 40 sigarette al giorno un amico mi ha consigliato questo libro e non ho più toccato una sigaretta. E' stata una liberazione provate l'investimento è minimo ( come 2 pacchetti di sigarette ) la soddisfazione enorme.
Con lo stesso sistema hanno smesso anche 4 miei cari amici. Ciao
Ecchime. Fumo da quando avevo 8 anni. In pratica, nella famiglia allargata in cui vivevo, ce stavano 6 fumatori e pure pigri. Un bel giorno, pe' nun arzasse da tavola, decisero che era un bene se io annavo in salone, accennevo 6 sigherette, e je le portavo... secondo loro avrei imparato che er fumo fa schifo. Infatti me fece schifo, ma solo le prime due tre vorte... dalla quarta in poi, ste sigherette j'arrivavano sempre piu' corte :D
Primo pacchetto acquistato, a 12 anni... oggi ne ho 42, festeggio er trentennale.
Ho smesso una montagna de vorte, la piu' seria quanno mi moje aspettava la prima regazzina... so' stato 5 anni senza fuma', ero diventato pure uno de quelli che rompe le p..e al prossimo... dopo 5 anni, senza motivo apparente, m'e' ripresa una smania che nun ciavevo avuto manco quanno avevo smesso... tempo 2 settimane e stavo come prima, come se sti 5 anni nun fossero mai passati :)

Anche io sono contro il fumo, mai fumato e ne sono orgoglioso ! bisogna usare la testa, quei porci a capo delle multinaionali se ne fregano della nostra salute e fanno soldi a palate facendoci ammalare, tutto questo è assurdo....ci sono voluti decenni prima ke questi bastardi ammettessero che la nicotina provocasse dipendenza, sino ad allora volevano occultare tutto questo.........
Io sono dell'idea che le campagne contro il fumo siano un modo per sviare l'attenzione dai veri problemi, il fumo non fa bene, ma di sicuro non è la causa di tutti i mali e credo che come qualsiasi altra cosa fa male se se ne abusa... e ci sarebbe poi da fare un lungo discorso sulle sostanze che sono state aggiunte nel 900 per creare dipendenza e ci si dovrebbe chiedere perché non si eliminano queste sostanze invece di fare campagne antifumo e lasciare che le sostanze in questione non vengano eliminate.
Al di là di questo credo poi che ognuno debba essere libero di fumare se lo desidera, pur rispettando chi non fuma e credo anche che sia una grande cretinata quella del fumo passivo, forse non tutti sanno che quel che si sa sui danni del fumo si basa su statistice, in pratica una sorta di prove empiriche, ma chi ha un minimo di conoscenza di fisica, saprà anche che una prova empirica ha valore solo in un sistema ideale, questo vuol dire che non è possibile dire che una persona è morta per il fumo passivo se poi vive in una città dove ci sono sicuramente varie forme di inquinamento, se non anche la presenza di rifiuti tossici... il problema è che è più facile dire che la colpa è del fumo, piuttosto che indagare sui reali problemi.

Ho 22 anni e non ho MAI fumato in vita mia nessun genere di cose e non ho intenzione di cominciare. Purtroppo alle superiori la maggior parte delle 25 persone che componevano la mia classe, fumavano o hanno cominciato a fumare "grazie" a quelli che fumavano già. Io sono orgogliosa di avere avuto una forza di volontà molto forte! Ribelliamoci contro chi fuma e ci inonda di fumo passivo! Alessio ma tu fumi? non si è mica capito oppure mi è sfuggito?

Ora respiro a pieni polmoni, sento odori che prima erano coperti dal fumo, i vestiti sanno di buono e quando bacio mia moglie la bacio con la bocca e non con un posacenere. Ho finalmente riscoperto "il gusto pieno della vita"

Ciao Alessio, ho messo il tuo banner, mi mancava proprio :-), dato che non fumo, mai fumato in vita mia, non mi piace il fumo, l'odore che lascia sui capelli, sulle mani, insomma dappertutto ... ed anche altro come ben sappiamo, anche se i fumatori, poi si giustificano dicendo, che certe malattie, vengono a chi non fuma e che taluni che hanno fumato fin da quando erano nella culla, hanno vissuto fino a 100 anni ahah . I fumatori li tollero a fatica però non si possono eliminare e se non lo capiscono da soli, nemmeno possiamo aprirgli la testa e mettergli un messaggio diverso verso la voglia di fumare!
